When Mama Cupcake, aka Jesica Kemp, wondered whether we would like to try some of her stunning cupcake creations we instantly replied with an invitation to tea (and cake) at Luxury Cheshire HQ.
Throwing a party has always meant ensuring that your guests will enjoy themselves fabulously and the best hosts know how to make an event to remember.
Cupcakes are an easy way to add a little wow factor to a special occasion. They have been popular since the late 1990’s when Sex and the City shot a scene of the girls sitting outside New York’s now famous Magnolia Bakery.
Mama Cupcake’s exquisitely decorated, dainty treasures now take cupcakes to another level. If you are looking to show off at your next special occasion, this is how to do it.
Why are cupcakes so popular?
Cupcakes are convenient party fare because they are easy to serve, and don’t need to be prepared or cut into slices. They suit so many different occasions, and can be washed down with vintage champagne or strong cups of tea.
They are also easy to pick up and eat without losing a grip on ones clutch bag or glass of bubbles. The individual nature of the small cakes means each can be different and incorporated into an eye-catching display.
What occasions are they suitable for?
Cupcakes are mainly but not exclusively suited to daytime events, including baby showers, christenings, big number wedding anniversaries (ruby wedding celebrations are very popular at the moment) and birthday tea parties. Cupcakes also make lovely gifts.
For a Baby Shower, Jesica suggests placing a hidden heart inside for guests to discover – pink or blue – as a fun way to let them know you’re expecting a boy or a girl. Along with the cakes, Mama Cupcake supplies beautiful cake display stands, including gold to marble, crystal to suit the designs and the occasion.
What are the most popular cupcake flavours at the moment?
Jesica bakes her cupcake sponge in a standard chocolate as well as any variety of exciting flavours the customer requests. In Cheshire, you may not be surprised to learn that Pink Champagne sponge is extremely popular. Other common requests include Jack Daniels, Baileys, red velvet, strawberry and lemon.
Bespoke designs for any occasion
While she has plenty of her own ideas to draw from, Jesica is equally as pleased when clients suggest their own design ideas. Corporate clients might want company colours and a logo, or for a personal occasion there might be a particular interest or style which would make the designs more meaningful.
About Mama Cupcake
Jesica started making cupcakes quite by accident, when she undertook the baking of 80 favours for guests at her son’s Christening in 2016. The compliments came flooding in afterwards and soon, so did the orders.
Jesica Kemp is well-travelled, with a penchant for fine dining. Her sweet tooth has sampled luxurious high- teas in countries around the world, and these have been the source of her inspiration in terms of the standards to which she aspires. She also draws inspiration day-to-day from eye-catching patterns and textures, photographing them to copy in her designs.
The sponge is made to Jesica’s own recipe. She has perfected this by trialing different flours, eggs, sugars and butters to reach her perfect formula. This includes sourcing the finest vanilla flavouring – which she notes is not an aspect she would skimp on, as you really do get what you pay for and price reflects the quality.
Cost: £30 per dozen, plus delivery (POA, varies depending on distance from Warrington). The minimum order is 12 (in a single flavour sponge).
