If you’re looking to inject some colour into your home this season, I’ve put together four of my favourite on-trend colour schemes to delight and inspire you. I’ve included details of paint colours from my favourite suppliers and where you can get them from in Cheshire. I’ve used these colour schemes in a number of different settings and they look stunning. They will look great in your home too.
My key tip when buying paint is to always consider the aspect of the room and how the light changes throughout the day, as colours can change dramatically in different lights and different spaces. Get a large piece of card or wood and paint this using a sample pot. Now place it around the room at different times of day to help you decide whether it is the shade for you.
For a fun and zesty touch this Summer, add accents of yellow, from pale butter to retro mustard yellows throughout your living space. A wall painted a light soft yellow particularly in a morning room, adds a gentle, whimsical feel, but compliment with mid greys to keep on trend, fresh and contemporary. Bright mustard yellows add an earthy warm glow and are the colours that that just keep on giving, mixing well with smoky charcoal greys to neutralise and soften.
I love Denim Drift, Dulux’s colour of the year – a timeless, versatile grey blue that captures the mood of the moment perfectly. It is reflective and relaxed, representing “life in a new light”, and comes as part of a family colour palette featuring a spectrum of blue tones.
Blush was the colour of the year in 2016 according to Pantone, and I still love this shade particularly when combined with pale greys, for a contemporary, scandinavian look and feel. But this year, pinks are becoming darker and dustier. Old rose tones are a warmer shade of blush and stay pure and tactile but not too sugary or feminine. Try combining with an earthy or olive green for a quintessentially English colour palette.
We can’t get enough of Farrow & Ball’s Inchyra Blue, released at the end of last year. Inspired by the dramatic Scottish skies, it is a magical colour and can look more grey, blue or green depending on the light. It works beautifully with a light grey, stone white or brighter teal shade, such as Vardo, a fun and lively shade reminiscent of decorated traditional horse drawn Romany wagons.
Little Greene Company’s Mid Azure Green, one of their New Colours of England ColourCard Shades for this Spring, is another rich teal that I adore. Try painting one wall in a hallway or study area for a bold, retro look and accentuate with gold or copper accessories and tan leather furniture.
If a statement colour on your walls is not your thing, why not create a neutral backdrop on your walls and ceiling, for a timeless, airy feel and then accentuate with brighter, bold colours and patterns, using scatter cushions, coloured vases, textured throws and rugs. Why not try reviving an old piece of furniture by painting it a new shade or upholstering it in a vibrant fabric to instantly bring it back to life and add interest to your home.
